Today my babies wanted to spend the morning at the park. I had a lot of work to do today but decided it might be fun to work outside! My work is mobile, we don’t get very many comfortable days in the summer (heat is an issue here), and my kids needed to get out of the house so why not?
THIS GOT ME THINKING ABOUT COMPROMISE!
Often times I get so fixated on my goals that when my schedule changes, or others need time and attention from me I get frustrated. I always have to catch myself and consider that there are always different ways to make things work.
Taking the time to stop and consider what others need and finding a good way to accomplish both set of goals won’t keep me from accomplishing mine. It just changes the way in which my goals get met.
If your like me and find it hard to compromise for any reason, consider if you had a need and someone wasn’t willing to compromise with you. You will probably find yourself feeling like your needs don’t matter, especially if it’s someone you care about. Maybe you would feel overlooked, under appreciated, and like your goals are not important. This is probably how they’re feeling.
When was the last time you found yourself making a compromise?
Did you find it easy to work with the other person, or did ambition get in the way?
What helps you remember that compromise is beneficial to you and the other party?
